Miley Cyrus Duet with the Flaming Lips!!!WTF???

(observer)
I am thinking about selling my ticket for there future gig...not sure if this the band I wanna see anymore...I think the Lips could do with some serious time out and appreciate what they have had or got before they completely throw it all away....

This is where you draw the line? Nevermind the other pop stars they've associated with.
Think of it this way, even Miley knows the Lips are the greatest band ever.

Actually, I think that this slew of collaborations (with artists whom some of their fans may think of as un-hip) is totally in line with the philosophy they've had since forever: *drop the cool*. Wayne would always say at concerts-- don't be too cool to dance, to cut loose, to have fun regardless of how others might think you should be looking. In a way, that's totally what they're doing now-- there's nobody (probably literally, nobody) that the Lips would be unwilling to work together with, to make some creativity, have some fun and see what happens.
On the other hand, Wayne won't hesitate to call artists out -- I remember when he called out the Arcade Fire a few years ago for (allegedly) being jerks to their crew & fans.
Just my 2c.

P.S.:
Plus, are you really that concerned that the Lips will "sell out" their musical integrity? Just listen to their last bunch of releases from the last few years (Heady Fwends, all the 2011-12 stuff, The Terror, Peace Sword, etc). With a couple of songs as exceptions, it's probably the least mainstream, least accessible music they've ever made. I don't think they're in danger of becoming "pop idols" or anything.
